New data protection rules landed in June, here’s what it means for you

If you handle any personal data, and that’s basically all of us, there’s a legal requirement worth knowing about.

From 19 June 2026, every UK organisation must have a proper process for people to complain about how their data is used, and must acknowledge and respond within set timeframes. It also means updating your privacy notice to reflect this.

It’s not just for the big companies either. It applies whether you’re a sole trader, a small team, or a national charity.
